Early friday got a text from Toe Knee... he's too scared to ride in the rain so will be cumming later... so it was just Heath and I leaving from Faversham. We were supposed to be meeting a few from Medway but despite stopping twice to wait for then carried on alone. The ride was nice and dry until the A12 where we had some light drizzel, Then we got to CHELMSFORD and it *uckin lashed down, so hard that I couldn't see Heath in front of me (about 20 yards)., still we carried on and eventually found our way through Colchester and realised that we didn't know the way to Mersea. Blind luck got us to the camp site. Up until this point my 15 year old Frank Thomas waterproof has done a cracking job......... but as I stopped at the site gate the resevoir in my proofs slopped forward and soaked me from the waist down... nice.
any way we found the Thanet guys and put up Heaths tent in the pouring rain and a gale... I left my lid on ! then the fun and games of puutting my brand new out of the wrapping tent up again it was still blowing a gale and lashing down, the ground was like a swamp, but we got it put up so all kit in the tents zip em up and off for a beer, only Heath forgot the zipping yer tent up in a gale thing and came back to find a newly installed indoor pool. Karl Kila and Jane turned up and tented up, Toe Knee arrived after a bit and tented up, then we got the call that Rob Al and Al (Jock) had arrived on site but as they were in the van (and the entrance was propper wet .. oo er) they were stoping near the gate. Beer came and went we got drunk! then it was Saturday Got up early on Saturday cos of the snoring... cheers Cookie mooched about and drank gallons of tea in the van and a wander round the stalls , then went in Kila's fun bus to the local shop (for local people) bought booze and food and water, went back to the site and drank strogbowvodkaredbulls and laughed at the "Gay wedding" couple from the Grantham ska Bandits who were greeting everyone on the gate.... you REALLY had to be there !!! though it was preferable when the bloke had the wedding dress on !!!! went to look at the custom show and have a hog roast then on to the bands... Quadrophobia were kin excellent and didn't just bash out the usual old classics the ska band were brilliant but best viewed from outside the main tent as it was kin hot and rough inside.
Went to the ska room so I didn't fall asleep at 11 in the other tent... but ended up having a cuppa with Al and Al then a fairly early night.
Sunday morning and I'm feeling very secondhand, but not as bad as Kila did hunched over her fry up
a fairly uneventful ride home, with just my puncture and Toe Knees clutch the only casualties
Cracking weekend despite the weather.
